Dog Ladder for Fishing Boats
by WaterDog Adventure Gear™

WAG Boarding Steps™ are dog ladders for fishing boats by WaterDog Adventure Gear that have been designed and manufactured with the fisherman in mind. Don’t leave your best friend behind when going out for the day simply because you fear having to drag your wet dog back into the boat after a swim. Our dog ladders provide an easy option to board your boat alone! WAG Boarding Steps have a capacity of 130 pounds and are designed for dog use only.

We have two models of dog ladders that are designed specifically for fishing boats. To view our dog ladders in other applications please visit our home page.

  • The LM-6 is designed to mount over the gunwale or transom lip of fishing boats. The patented design incorporates reversible, modifiable hooks to mount over the top edge of the gunwale or transom and has independently adjustable struts to accommodate different hull designs and shapes (angle/curvature). Perhaps most importantly, if you drop them in the water or they fall out of the boat, they float due to strategic placement of closed-cell polyethylene foam. The LM-6 has safety yellow steps with clear anodized aluminum extrusions.  U.S. Patent No. 9,815,529  LM-6 and LM-6H Owner’s Manual
  • If your boat does not meet the mounting location requirements for the LM-6, our Model HSM-6 provides similar functionality but mounts at the top using a mounting bar (versus hooks) that can be secured to a flat horizontal surface along your gunwale. The HSM-6 has a patented design with independently adjustable struts that rest against the hull like the LM-6.  U.S. Patent No. 9,815,529  HSM-6 Owner’s Manual

Both the LM-6 and the HSM-6 have a capacity of 130 pounds and are designed for dog use only. They feature a collapsible design for transport and storage (approximately 42″ L x 18″ W x 5″ D) and weigh approximately 8 pounds.

Other mounting options, including those designed to be mounted on swim ladders, can be viewed at our Doggie Steps product page.

Unlike ramps or platforms, WAG dog ladders for boats provide a pet-friendly, stable and easy-to-use method for your dog to get from the water onto the boat. The 6-step design provides a vertical rise of 24″ from the bottom step to horizontal surface to work in locations with no more than 16″ of freeboard. A 2-step extension kit is available as an accessory which increases the vertical rise to 32″ for freeboards up to 24″. The 4″ deep, flat steps with integral toe plate and 4″ step height is suitable for dogs of all sizes and have a slip-resistant top surface. The “space-frame” design results in high open areas in all three directions to minimize the force and effects of surrounding water currents.

Fitment Requirements for the LM-6:

  • A lip width of no more than 3-1/2″ (hook modifications are possible, if more than 3-1/2″)
  • A flat lip section at least 15″ wide
  • No obstructions inside of the boat within 3-1/2″ of the top of the lip (hook modifications are possible, if less than 3-1/2″)
  • A freeboard (distance from top of lip to water level) of no more than 16″ (less is better for bigger dogs); 24″ with 2-step extension kit

Fitment Requirements for the HSM-6:

  • A flat surface at least 15″ wide
  • A freeboard (distance from top of lip to water level) of no more than 16″ (less is better for bigger dogs); 24″ with 2-step extension kit
